Gunmen kill APC ward chairman, villagers in Kogi community
On Sunday, tragedy struck when unidentified gunmen raided the oganienugu hamlet in Kogi State’s Dekina Local Government Area and massacred numerous locals.
The hoodlums reportedly invaded the village on Sunday night in the middle of the night and began shooting randomly.
Also, our correspondent learned that Hon. James Adah, the All Progressive Congress’ ward chairman, was one of those killed by gunfire.
Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the state governor, issued a calm request in response to the situation.
He described the attack as “vile and satanic attack and a calculated assault on the peace-loving people of Oganenigu who have enjoyed relative peace and security.”
Bello stated that his administration will keep phasing crisis entrepreneurs out of the state and see to it that those responsible were held accountable under the law.
He said that the attacks were shocking, adding that “the government will never bow to the machinations of heartless elements in its resolve to rid the state of criminals.”
He expresses sympathy to the residents of Oganenigu, especially the dead Oganenigu APC ward chairman’s family and others impacted by the “ugly and unfortunate attack” while urging the people to remain calm.
Yet he cautioned the populace against enforcing laws themselves because security forces had been rapidly mobilized and sent to difficult areas to bring about normalcy.
