Lionel Messi added another accolade to his illustrious career, securing his 46th career trophy as Inter Miami triumphed 3-2 over Columbus Crew to clinch the MLS Supporters’ Shield. The victory marks a major milestone for the club, earning the best regular-season record in Major League Soccer.
Messi, returning from a two-month injury layoff, delivered a stellar performance, scoring twice. His first goal came in the 45th minute after a well-executed chest-down control and a lucky bounce off Columbus defender Malte Amundsen. Messi then doubled the lead just minutes later with a signature free-kick that curled past Columbus keeper Patrick Schulte.
Although Columbus fought back with goals from Diego Rossi and a Cucho Hernandez penalty, Miami’s Luis Suarez capitalized on a defensive error to secure the win. The Crew’s comeback efforts were stifled when Rudy Camacho was sent off after a second yellow card, leaving Messi and Miami to lift the Supporters’ Shield.
