Nigeria defeated longtime rivals Cameroon 2-0 in the last 16 on Saturday, and Ademola Lookman’s brace guaranteed them a spot in the Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals the following weekend.
Lookman gave Nigeria the lead at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium with a goal in the 36th minute, and he added another just before full time as Nigeria dominated Cameroon.
After Angola defeated Namibia 3-0 in Bouake earlier on Saturday in the opening round of the elimination phase, they will play Angola in the final eight in Abidjan on Friday.
Lookman’s double made him an important part of the victory, but Victor Osimhen, the African Footballer of the Year from Nigeria, excelled with his work ethic and led his team to victory.
That was the full amount Nigeria was due displaying far better form following a mostly lackluster performance in the group round, as they came in second in their division.
