A faction within the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has disowned Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as the party leader, further deepening internal conflicts.
Leading the anti-Kwankwasiya campaign at the party’s secretariat in Minna, Niger State, Dr. Gilbert Agbo, the factional National Chairman, accused Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiya group of hindering the party’s progress. Agbo emphasized that Kwankwaso’s suspension by the National Working Committee (NWC) in Lagos effectively nullified his membership and influence within the NNPP.
In a symbolic gesture to distance themselves from Kwankwaso’s faction, Agbo supervised the burning of the Kwankwasiya group’s iconic red caps at the state secretariat. He further stated that Governor Kabir Yusuf of Kano State is expected to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee for failing to adhere to party principles.
However, Mallam Danladi Umar Abdulhamid, leader of the Kwankwasiya Movement in Niger State, dismissed Agbo’s faction as illegitimate. He claimed that the moves against Kwankwaso serve personal interests rather than those of the NNPP. According to Abdulhamid, Kwankwaso remains the party’s national leader under Dr. Ahmed Ajuji’s leadership.
This internal rift adds to the political turbulence within the NNPP, raising questions about the future direction of the party and its leadership.
