Yahaya Ahidjo, Director, North-East Area Office, NYSC, made the announcement on Wednesday during the 2023 NYSC one-day corps employers workshop in Bauchi.
He stated that this might be accomplished by prioritizing their wellbeing, as is done with permanent personnel, and that such a gesture would assist increase their morale, allowing them to function optimally.
“Employers are expected to make statutory welfare provisions for corps members, such as transportation, lodging with minimal furnishing, and other provisions that will help boost morale.”
“May I therefore, make a passionate appeal to corps employers to pay particular attention to the ones posted to their organisations by according them the same treatment given to their permanent staff,” he told the audience.
Ahidjo also requested them to impose suitable penalties on corporations, When members are found wanting, they must report such acts of malfeasance to NYSC administration.
The director also urged corps businesses to recognize corps members’ contributions by hiring them permanently following their service year, regardless of their home state.
This, he argued, would foster socioeconomic growth and labor mobility as a national integration plan.
Rifkatu Yakubu, the state coordinator of NYSC, stated in her presentation that the workshop was an opportunity to get input from corps employers on the scheme’s activities in order to adopt better tactics for increased performance.
She said that it was also a way for the plan to keep stakeholders, notably corps employers, informed its activities.
“The workshop is also to forge a closer working relationship between managers of the scheme, corps employers and corps members with a focus on their respective roles towards the upliftment of the scheme in the service of the nation,” Yakubu told the media.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the workshop’s subject is “Deepening Corps Employers Participation Towards Improved Welfare and Security of Corps Members.”
