Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president of Nigeria, has raised concern over how Nigerians behave like enemies at home yet act as friends while they are abroad.

According to Obasanjo, Nigerians living abroad are doing the nation proud in a variety of endeavors.

The former president urged Nigerians living abroad to be good citizens wherever they resided during this speech during an evening reception hosted in New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA.

Obasanjo expressed happiness over the sense of solidarity displayed by Nigerians in the United States of America in a statement made by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi.

He urged Nigerians living abroad to return the favor when they return to their country.

He addressed on behalf of a group that comprised the Olowu of the Owu Kingdom, Oba Saka Matemilola, as well as distinguished scholars and traditional leaders.

He said, “Nigerian nationals are often very united when they are abroad, but something else when they return to the country, therefore, I want to urge all to be good citizens, not only where you are, but when also you come home to Nigeria.”

He commended Rutgers University administration for their “far-reaching engagements” and for the warm welcome they gave the delegation.
