Ogun Assembly Speaker, Oluomo, Impeached

Olakunle Oluomo (APC-Ifo1), the Speaker of the Ogun House of Assembly, has been impeached.

18 of the 26 assembly members impeached Oluomo at the plenary session led by Deputy Speaker Mrs. Bolanle Ajayi (APC-Yewa South), according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

As a result, Mr. Oludaisi Elemide (APC-Odeda) has been chosen by the legislators to be the new speaker.

The impeachment resolution for Oluomo was made by lawmaker Mr. Adegoke Adeyanju (APC-Yewa North 1), and Mr. Ademola Adeniran (APC-Sagamu II) seconded it.

Adeyanju reportedly entered the assembly chamber with the maze among other legislators, according to NAN.

Shortly after being elected as the new speaker, Elemide told reporters that the state’s citizens should hope for the best from him.

We are legislators who uphold the law. “We would like the entire world to be aware that the House of Assembly’s leadership has changed,” he declared.

Elemide urged the people of the state to maintain composure, stating that he had the support of eighteen legislators in becoming speaker.

We have complete control over the house’s power. We are promising that Prince Dapo Abiodun, our governor, would have the backing of the next administration.

“I promise you that the governor was unaware of this impeachment,” he declared.

The speaker was meant to be first among equals, according to Mr. Damilola Soneye (APC-Obafemi Owode), who also spoke.

“The speaker was impeached for egregious misconduct that verged on haughtiness, a lack of transparency and concentration, conceit, and poor Soneye mentioned three things: financial improprieties, leadership style, and agitating members against one another.

The impeached speaker, Oluomo, was reportedly not present at plenary, and attempts to reach him for comment on the development were unsuccessful despite multiple attempts to reach his cell phone.

Additionally, according to NAN, there was a noticeable increase in security at the assembly complex, and Mr. Deji Adeyemo, the clerk of the assembly, and Mrs. Funmilayo Adeyemi, the deputy clerk, were present at the plenary.
