Okowa Backs MTN Winners To Uncover New Gifts

The President, Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Tonobok Okowa, has promised technical support for the maiden MTN CHAMPS athletics championships, PROPOLITICS.

Over 7,000 competitors and 500 schools are set to go after north of 1,000 awards and 32 group titles at the titles, supported by broadcast communications monsters MTN and coordinated by Making of Champions, in organization with the Nigeria School Sports Alliance.

The opposition, which is spread across three age sections — the recruits (U-14), adolescents (U-17) and youngsters (U-20), will be held in four urban areas the nation over — Benin City, Ibadan, Uyo and Abuja.

The title holds from October 12 to 14 in Benin and in Uyo from October 26 to 28. In Ibadan, the MTN Champions happens from November 9 to 11, while in Abuja it will hold from November 29 to December 1, with the stupendous finale in Abuja scheduled for December

“I am the main beneficiary of this championship because there are no proper competitions for these age cadre and MoC has just rescued us from that challenge through the MTN CHAMPS,” Okowa told PROPOLOTICS.

“The athletes will look forward to these competitions and will train towards them, because sometimes we lose the athletes between 15 and 18 because no good competitions to keep them going. We at the AFN will give the competition every support it needs.”

Bambo Akani, MoC founder, underlined the advantages of organizing the MTN CHAMPS.

“I am pleased that MTN has now identified with our efforts to take track and field to lofty heights in Nigeria,” he remarked. This is a watershed moment in our country’s history of school sports and athletics. “I am confident that MTN CHAMPS will discover and develop athletic talent across the country.”
