Ondo PDP Rejects Edo Governorship Election Results as “Rape of Democracy

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has vehemently rejected the results of the recent governorship election in Edo State, labeling it as another “rape of democracy” in Nigeria. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victory with 291,667 votes, while the PDP garnered 247,274 votes and the Labour Party received 22,763 votes.

In a statement released by Ayo Fadaka, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity for the PDP Campaign Organisation, the party condemned the election outcome, asserting that it reflects a blatant disregard for the will of the people. “Nigerians are not fooled by the officially declared result by INEC,” the statement declared, insisting that the PDP actually won the election.

The party criticized INEC for allegedly violating electoral laws by shifting the collation of votes from designated local government centers to its headquarters in Benin, an action they claim undermines the integrity of the electoral process.

In the wake of these events, the PDP has expressed its commitment to ensuring a fair election in Ondo State’s upcoming governorship election on November 16. “We will not acquiesce or take kindly to any act geared towards compromising votes in our election,” the statement emphasized.

The party also highlighted widespread discontent among the people of Ondo State, citing protests against the hardship and economic challenges imposed by the APC government. “The people are already protesting against hunger, lack, and want,” the statement noted, underscoring a growing frustration with the ruling party.
