One dead, two injured as building collapses in Kwara
In the late afternoon of Easter Sunday, tragedy struck when a structure fell in Lade village, Patigi local government area, Kwara State, killing a woman named Joy Thomas and injuring a mother and her son.
The incident occurred at 10 p.m. while the victims were sleeping, according to reliable information obtained by The Spectator.
Joshua Seth, the deceased’s neighbor, told Vanguard that the incident has devastated the neighborhood and families.
According to Joshua, “The deceased, Joy and other victims were sleeping, and others relaxing outside the veranda because of heat, when the collapsed building and rubble fell on them.
“The remains of the young lady were buried in the early hours of Monday.”
He emphasized that the tragic situation occurred at 10 p.m. on Sunday and that debris also hurt a mother and her son.
“The other victims who were severely injured, were rushed to a nearby hospital in the community for medical treatments,” he added.
Multiple accounts claim that the deceased attended church on Sunday morning to celebrate Easter with fellow church goers and friends.
When reached, Ayeni Olasunkanmi, the spokesman for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, or NSCDC, indicated that he would investigate and get back to them.
But as of Monday night, when this report was filed, he still hadn’t done so.
“I’m yet to be briefed about the development by our office in that area.
“I will get in touch with you as soon as possible,” he said.
