Peter Obi Faces Political Turmoil Over Obasanjo and Remi Tinubu’s Meeting

The recent meeting between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and First Lady Remi Tinubu has sparked significant controversy and speculation. Daniel Bwala, a political commentator, has highlighted the potential impact of this meeting on Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate.

Bwala suggests that the photograph of Remi Tinubu with Obasanjo might cause Obi sleepless nights, indicating the political weight such an image carries. This meeting, held on Monday as Obasanjo paid Sallah homage to Remi Tinubu, follows another instance where the former President was seen donning a cap with President Bola Tinubu’s insignia.

The significance of these interactions is underscored by the fact that Obasanjo and President Bola Tinubu, despite their shared Southwest origins, belong to different political affiliations. During the 2023 presidential election, Obasanjo notably endorsed Peter Obi, even after Tinubu and key Afenifere leaders sought his support.

Bwala also pointed out that some prominent Pentecostal bishops have distanced themselves from Obi, adding another layer of complexity to the political scenario. In a post on X, Bwala remarked, “This picture would give sleepless night to Mr P alias ‘Greengory.’ @PeterObi. I personally know of three prominent Pentecostal Bishops that have also abandoned him and his ‘take back your country hate speech.’ My big uncle Pat Utomi would soon abandon him too. Mark my words.”

These developments indicate a shifting political allegiance that could have significant ramifications for Peter Obi’s political standing and strategy. As the political dynamics continue to evolve, the implications of Obasanjo’s recent engagements will likely unfold in the coming weeks and months.
