An Inspector named Ubi Ebri has been fired by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly killing Onyeka Ibe, age 26.
Ibe was shot and killed on April 5, 2023 in Asaba, the capital of Delta State, on Ugbolu-Illah Road after reportedly refusing to pay a N100 bribe.
According to reports, the deceased worked as a phone vendor at the state’s well-known Ogbeogonogo Market.
He allegedly was taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Asaba right away but was pronounced dead when he got there.
To express their rage, some angry youths paraded the victim’s body across Asaba.
The command later located and detained Ebri.
The suspect, however, has been dropped, according to a statement from the police released on Tuesday.
“Ubi Ebri has been dismissed from the Nigeria Police force and will be charged to court Wednesday, April 19, 2023,” the statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Edafe Bright, read.
