President Bola Tinubu has declared that Nigeria’s security forces are making significant strides in the battle against insecurity in the Northwest region. This statement was delivered at the Northwest Peace and Security Summit organized by the North-West Governors’ Forum in Katsina on Monday, where Vice President Kashim Shettima represented the President.
President Tinubu emphasized the progress being made, highlighting various military operations such as Operation Hadin Kai and Operation Safe Haven. He stated that these initiatives are effectively targeting terrorist groups like Boko Haram and various bandit factions that have plagued the region for years.
“Our military forces, through various operations such as Operation Hadin Kai and Operation Safe Haven, have made true their promise to the nation by targeting groups like Boko Haram and bandits who have held sway for too long,” Tinubu said. He added that through enhanced border security and intelligence capabilities, the government has successfully disrupted and dismantled numerous criminal networks.
The President assured the public that this progress marks only the beginning of the government’s intensified efforts to secure a safer environment for all Nigerians. He dismissed claims that the insecurity in the Northwest is part of a sectional agenda, stressing that any threat to one part of the nation destabilizes the entire country.
Tinubu reiterated that the administration’s top priority since taking office over a year ago has been the security of Nigeria. He pointed out that the strategies implemented are starting to yield positive results, and the government remains committed to dismantling insurgent groups entirely.
Furthermore, Tinubu revealed that significant efforts are underway to strengthen collaboration among security agencies to ensure a unified approach in combating insurgency. This includes adhering to standard operating procedures and rules of engagement, as well as coordinating joint training exercises, fostering inter-agency cooperation, and enhancing communication and information sharing.
The President’s remarks at the summit underline the government’s dedication to restoring peace and security in the Northwest, aiming for a comprehensive and sustained victory over criminal elements threatening the region’s stability.
