Russia Attack: Olawepo-Hashim Writes Putin, Calls for Global Peace

An All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has conveyed his sympathy to President Vladimir Putin of Russia following the terrorist attack at a music hall in Moscow, the country’s capital, last Friday.

His letter, dated Monday, March 25, 2024, was sent through the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Abuja. He maintained that the attack not only remained “a fiendish assault on live culture and civilization,” but the “horrific act which reportedly claimed 137 lives (and still climbing) and many injured, must be condemned by all peace-loving people all over the world and people of good conscience.”

He added that “the attack further underscores the ubiquitous nature of terror which no nation is immune against as long as there exist an ample number of”Though Nigeria feels the pains of terrorism daily, Nigerians must stand with Russia, a friendly nation that has demonstrated generous friendship and support to our Nation in times of war and peace in the past.

” He emphasized that “not only did Russia support efforts to keep Nigeria one during the Nation’s Civil War, Russia extended economic support for the building of important economic infrastructure.” He said that “sad occurrences such as the 9/11 in the US, the London Tube bombing, and many variants of terrorist actions such as this in powerful nations highlight the necessity of increased international cooperation and solidarity against terrorism and the need to strengthen Peace Globally across political divides and offered technical training and scholarships to the finest experts in the country. Our founding fathers considered Russia to be a crucial partner in the fight for freedom from colonial oppression.

According to Olawepo-Hashim, “the friendship between the people of Nigeria and the people of Russia has historically been reciprocal, as demonstrated during the Chernobyl nuclear tragedy incident when Nigeria announced the substantial financial donation in solidarity with Russia.”

“Let me add my voice as a friend of Russia in this difficult time, to stand in solidarity with Russia and to comfort those injured in last Friday’s attack.”
