The Office of Minister Nkiruka Onyeocha, Minister of Labour and Employment, has announced a new initiative by the Lagos State Government aimed at facilitating the acquisition of planning permits for completed buildings.
This transformative amnesty programme, spearheaded by the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, commences from May 2nd to July 30th, 2024, and signifies a significant step towards fostering sustainable development and compliance within the built environment sector.
The initiative offers property owners and developers an opportunity to rectify the status of their completed buildings without incurring the customary statutory penalties. Through a collaborative effort with the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), applicants are encouraged to submit their documentation for assessment, thereby contributing to the harmonious growth of our urban landscape.
Under this unprecedented amnesty window, participants are required to provide essential documents, including proof of ownership, survey plans, architectural drawings, and other pertinent paperwork, through designated channels. Furthermore, the programme offers an additional incentive of a five per cent discount on payments completed within ten working days during the amnesty period.
The Lagos State Government’s proactive approach in supporting stakeholders within the built environment sector is commendable. The amnesty programme is a historic opportunity for property owners and developers to collaborate with the government in shaping a more vibrant and compliant urban landscape for future generations.
The initiative not only fosters regulatory compliance but also promotes economic growth and job creation opportunities. As Minister of Labour and Employment, Nkiruka Onyeocha encourages all property owners and developers to seize this historic opportunity and participate in the programme to contribute towards the development of a sustainable and compliant urban landscape.
