The rise in cult activities in the state’s higher education institutions has been denounced by Pastor Dike Nwankwo, Director General of the Abia State Orientation Agency.
He voiced his disgust on Tuesday in Umuahia in response to the recent conflict between various cult groups at Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU), which resulted in a student’s death and left the school in disarray.
Recalling the anti-cultism and drug addiction sensitization program his agency held in December 2023, Nwankwo said that the key is to stop the drug addiction and cultism epidemic among the state’s youth.
As a result, he commanded all Abia inhabitants and citizens, particularly young people attending different universities, to reject cultism and refrain from drug usage, pointing out that these behaviors are harmful.
Since the effects of the Governor Alex Otti administration’s reorientation and mind-shift program are already being felt, Nwankwo insisted that it is imperative to maintain this initiative.
He applauded the governor for moving quickly to calm things down at the state university.
