President Bola Tinubu was elected to lead the Economic Community of West African States’ Authority of Heads of State and Government.
At the regional bloc’s 63rd Ordinary Session, which took place on Sunday afternoon in Bissau, the capital of Guinea-Bissau, Tinubu was chosen as chairman.

From 2018 to 2019, the position has been held by the former president Buhari.
Although the position does not grant administrative authority, the Chairman engages in advocacy, plays a strategic role in resolving disputes, and communicates with the President of the ECOWAS Commission, the executive in charge of managing and carrying out ECOWAS policies and decisions on a daily basis.
