Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi-Ojaja II, the Ooni of Ife, asserted that traditional leaders are well-equipped to combat national instability.
This was said by Ooni on Friday at a gathering of traditional leaders from all across the nation with President Bola Tinubu at the Old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The conference, which is rumored to be a component of President Tinubu’s consultations with numerous stakeholders across the nation, is anticipated to cover a wide range of topics, including how to promote national healing and unity.
President Tinubu was asked by the Ooni of Ife to use traditional leaders to combat the threat of insecurity.
Ooni, who is also the co-chair of Nigeria’s traditional leaders, stated, “We would like to engage with you in a number of areas, one of which being security. We are not suggesting we are inactive, but it is time to employ us more so that your task is made easier.
“The foundation of this country today are the traditional rulers. We are here to pledge our loyalty and support. We want to work with you to ensure you leave a legacy.
“Don’t underestimate what traditional rulers can do”, he said.
Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, has stated that the visit is a customary practice of the monarchs whenever there is a change in the nation’s political structure.
He asserted that the monarchs are individuals from a variety of professions, including the military, the judiciary, and commerce, who have what it takes to improve society. He added, “Whenever you reach out to us, we will be here.”
The Sultan claimed that due to the many issues the nation is currently facing, the monarchs do not envy President Tinubu at this time, but he expressed faith that he and Vice President Kashim Shettima will succeed together.
He said: “We thank God for the smooth way the elections took place. Many negative people thought this country would collapse, but we are still here.
“We are here for you, for our people and our country. If you don’t reach out to us, we will reach out to you.
“We wish you the most successful tenure in good health.”
