Residents of Bini village in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State have staged a protest march to the Government House in Gusau, expressing their dissatisfaction over the withdrawal of military troops from their community.
The community members, including men, women, and children, carried their belongings such as foodstuff and mats to the Government House to highlight their concerns. They emphasized that the removal of troops has left their community vulnerable to attacks by bandits, resulting in injuries to several individuals.
State officials, including the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Wadatau Madawaki, and the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Abdul Malik Gajam, received the protesters. They assured the residents that the state government is committed to ensuring their security and safety, pledging to redeploy troops to protect the Bini community and other troubled areas in the state.
Madawaki reiterated the state administration’s stance of not negotiating with bandits but instead employing security forces to eradicate the menace of banditry from Zamfara State. The government’s engagement with the protesters underscores its commitment to addressing the security challenges facing communities like Bini and ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region.
